subject: Do We Really Need A Smart Phone? [print this page] The recent wave of QWERTY keypads phones likes HTC, Samsung and LG, have made us wonder if one really needs a smart phone. If that sounds ridiculous, just consider the facts. The HTC Facebook phone comes with a good QWERTY keypad and a capacitive screen, and is able to access mail and social networks, which makes browse the Internet, chat away merrily in a convenient way, whats more, with storage of up to 8 GB, Wi-Fi and GPS and a decent camera. And all for less than 2500yuan!
Both these devices are much cheaper than smart phones with similar features (the cheapest Nokia E series starts at 3200yuan and you will struggle to get a proper BlackBerry for under 6,000, unless you go for an older model, and neither has the features that the Corby Pro offers and let one do pretty much what one could on a smart phone. Yes, the apps available will be lesser and stuff like multi-tasking will be more difficult, but on the other hand, these phones work a lot faster and have better battery life. Whats more, they look pretty good too. The HTC Facebook phone looks like something out of Nokias E Series until one gets really close and we just love the colorful Corby series.
People now are attempting to add more and more function into the processor of a smart phone. Some ideas come to mind, like glasses that display the smart phone screen through Bluetooth or develop more smart phones that can deliver the content via a projected image. Someone also think that we can add internet digital bank or teaching tools to the future smart phones which enables us to transfer accounts or receive education on the fly .
Now we are beginning to wonder if buying smart phones is really worth it for the user who wants to do nothing more than just check his or her mail, browse the Net and tweak their Facebook account and tweet a bit. People should work on the user experience and find ways to deliver the content in a way that is less frustrating. Adding too much functions to phones will definitely leads to short battery life and low functioning speed which will makes the phones inconvenient. While convenience is our only goal that we are after. In any case, the smart phone is a great tool, but for me, its enough that we can text messages, check emails and browse the Net via a phone.
