subject: Adults Cling To Dreams [print this page] As a child, many people are encouraged to reach for the stars. School children are told that they can do anything, even be President and change the world. Young minds and imaginations are told to dream big dreams about being anything they want when they grow up. Parents, teachers, and mentors are on to something. Indeed, both a vision and dreams are imperative for success.
Unfortunately, as children grow up and experience disappointments and failures in life, the vision fades and the dreams stop. As they become better acquainted with the realities of life and hardships in the world, people begin to view their dreams as unattainable and impossible. They begin to question whether they are capable of the greatness they once envisioned and whether it is possible to really make a difference.
In the hustle and bustle of life, individuals get sucked into monotonous schedules and everyday responsibilities. Simply fighting to make ends meet and struggling to be both parent and provider easily overcome optimism. It can be hard to see the light over the enormous stack of bills, debt, laundry, and family problems.
This is a big part of the reason that so many people are unhappy with life. They havent received from it what they once knew in their heart was completely possible. Once upon a time, they had big dreams and aspirations. Over the years it slips away until there is nothing left but a dead end job and uninspired individual.
People need to catch the vision again. There is something to be done about unhappiness. All it takes is remembering the dream, the passion, and the hope for a better life. Outlining exactly what one desires from life will give him a roadmap to success, and there is no other way to reach it if not with a vision.
An individual must know himself first and then define the dream. He must consider those things in life that bring him purpose and a sense of meaning. Going back to this vision will help him stay focused and overcome the obstacles that lay in his way until the day comes when the dream is made a successful reality. Adults are not often told to dream, but it is as vital for them as it is for children just beginning to realize their potential and self-worth.
While life never resembles a fairy tale, a long ago vision for ones life can be more than just a dream. A clear vision and dreams are imperative for success. Clinging to that vision, mapping it out, can carry one through the drudgery of the hard work it will take to reach dreams. In the end, a vision can only be reached one step at a time, no matter how big or impossible it may at first seem.
