subject: Depuy To Regain Its Credibility With anatomy Of Movement Experience [print this page]

The Anatomy of Movement Experience is a one-of-a-kind touring exhibit that Johnson & Johnson concocted to regain its customers trust after the devastation caused by the DePuy hip replacement recall. DePuy Orthopaedics Inc.s 2010 recall of its Articular Surface Replacement (ASR) hip systems may have been just one of the lists of consumer-drug recalls, however, it created the most impact with 93,000 patients having used the product. The many lawsuits that followed in the wake of the recall were consolidated under Judge David A. Katz of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, in what is called a multidistrict litigation (MDL), wherein a status conference had been called forthe DePuy hip replacement lawsuit this month.

With the objective of educating visitors, the exhibit demonstrates hip and knee joint conditions and treatment options. Lineup of activities for the exhibit which boosts of an oversized replica of the hip and knee, are speaking with patients whose daily lives have been improved by joint replacement; interacting with hip and knee joint models; taking a self assessment quiz to help start a conversation with a doctor about treatment options and talking with experts about hip and knee pain.

One of the famous personalities who will be talking in the exhibit is Hollywood actress Jane Kaczmarek, who is best known for her role as the hilarious, outspoken mother of a dysfunctional family in the 20th Century Fox Television comedy series Malcolm in the Middle. Kaczmarek was too good an actress that no one ever noticed that she has been suffering from severe hip pain as a result of osteoporosis. Last September, Kaczmarek became one of DePuy Orthopaedics partners when it launched the Osteoarthritis Awareness and Education Program last September.

Continuing its nationwide tour, the Anatomy of Movement Experience had already visited places like Orlando, Florida; Boston, Massachusetts; Los Angeles, California and Long Beach, California. Johnson & Johnson is dedicated to continuing to fix its quality control and manufacturing processes. However, its CEO William Weldon admitted that the company has some ground to make up with consumers to mend its now-tattered reputation for high-quality products. Should this exhibit restore Johnson & Johnsons credibility among its customers remain to be seen.

Damage has been done already with 93,000 people worldwide having been implanted with the DePuy hip implants despite the ASR hip replacement recall. Lawsuits also continue to pile up with some patients claiming that DePuy had already known that its implants were defective and yet it did not immediately make the dangers known to the public.
