The preference towards these locations has increased over the years predominantly because of the quality of education and the early exposure available to students. Students earn degrees based on the school they attend. For instance students attending School of Arts and Sciences would ideally receive a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) with Engineering and Science School graduates receiving a Bachelors of Science (B.S.). The above mentioned degrees are also the most commonly earned Bachelors degree types. Some other degree types earned by applicants are: Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.), Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.), Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch.) etc.
Bachelors Degree (BA/BS):
The duration and requirements of a Bachelors Degree differ from country to country. All most all North American Universities follow a semester system. The academic year is divided into two terms or semesters i.e. Fall and Spring. The degree is usually completed in 4 years, which in the end is a total of 8 semesters. In the 4 years, a student is also required to cover some basic requirements other than the area of interest. When a student finally decides what he/she wants to study, it is called a Major. Someone who wants to pursue their Bachelors Degree in Economics would refer to his/her Major as Economics. Students who have an interest in more than one subject can also Double Major. A student who can meet all the requirements for both the Economics and Math major, he/she can be a double major in Economics and Math. It does not mean that the student will get a dual degree. Upon graduation, American universities award Latin honors to the students: summa cum laude (highest honor), magna cum laude (high honor), cum laude (with honor) or without honors. The honor degree is awarded on the basis of a students Grade Point Average (GPA). For nearly all undergraduate programs in North America students need to complete approximately 120 credit hours for all the 4 years of education. Universities situated in this part of the world are pretty flexible to allow students to make an informed decision regarding their choice of course. Students in addition to the core credits can opt for credits from different departments to finally decide on the areas which interest them the most.
In the United Kingdom, First Degree Courses in Arts and Sciences (Bachelor's degree) are normally of three or four years' duration and are largely taught courses, sometimes including the preparation of a short written thesis. The degree is either received with honors or without honors in the UK. The degrees are classified into: first class honors, upper second-class honors, lower second-class honors, third class honors, ordinary degree or fail. The honors degree is awarded on the basis of the marks a student obtains.
A bachelors degree is a foundation degree for students providing the right stepping stone to enter the world of higher education and proceed towards building their careers.
