subject: Tamerica Durabind Tcc 242 Comb Binding Machine Review [print this page]

Do you need to comb bind legal size documents, books, presentations or reports? Consider using a comb binding machine like the Tamerica Durabind TCC 242 from ABCOffice.com. This desktop binding machine is perfect for legal offices, schools and universities that need to bind 8 " x 14" documents. This is my review.

Tamerica is one of the best-known manufacturers of comb binding machines. I have already reviewed several of their entry-level machines and have always come out impressed. The Durabind TCC 242 is one of the most feature-rich binding machines to date. While it may be a manually operated machine, it is extremely efficient and fast.

The metal chassis, frame and shell make this machine extremely durable. It can be used on just about any desktop or table and is convenient for daily or as needed binding jobs. It features two separate manually operated handles. The right handle is used for punching paper and the left handle is designed to open and close plastic binding combs.

While there are a lot of letter-size comb binding machines out there, few of them can handle legal-size paper. This legal-size comb binding machine can also be used to punch smaller sheets of paper, including 8 " x 11" letter-size documents. It is 100% compatible with plastic 19-ring binding combs.

The long handle on the Durabind TCC 242 allows it to easily punch through 15-20 sheets of paper at a time. This makes it possible to quickly bind a book anywhere from " up to 2" in a short amount of time. It can use the oval-shaped larger plastic binding coils without a problem.

While Tamerica states that his machine can bind 250 books an hour up to 2" thick, I think thats probably pushing it. It does, however, feature hollow-ground punching pins, which helps to reduce the surface area being punched. This makes the manual punching of paper relatively easy. A convenient catch tray can be pulled out from the bottom of the machine, making it easy to empty punched paper.

This comb binder is versatile. Two features I really like include the fully disengageable punching pins and the adjustable margin depth. All 24 punching pins can be selectively disabled, making custom bookbinding easy. If you end up with a half-punched hole, simply disengage that punching pin. The 4 position adjustable margin depth makes it easy to punch holes deeper into paper or closer to the edge, depending on the thickness of the book.

This is definitely one of the best options out there for legal-size comb binding. It is durable, easy to use and I personally recommend it.

ABCOffice.com has a great selection of book binding machines, including comb binders. If you visit ABCOffice.com, you will be able to find the Tamerica Durabind TCC 242 comb binder and a wide variety of other plastic comb binding machines.
