subject: 4 Sure Fire Ways To Lose Weight And Stay Fit [print this page]

1) Nutrition
1) Nutrition

That old cliche is true - your body is your temple and what you put in it goes a long way in staying fit and keeping the weight down. I can write a whole other article about what to eat, what not to eat, but to keep it simple and effective: when it comes to your salads and vegetables, the greener and more colorful the better. Spinach instead of lettuce, broccoli, carrots, squash and zucchini etc. Also, fruits and whole grains should be apart of your balanced diet. Use brown rice and whole wheat pasta as substitutions and try make fruits apart of your daily breakfast.

2) Consistency

The hardest part about staying active and losing weight, is getting there! Meaning getting to that gym, track, class, hike etc. Once you get there, everything will take care of itself and your body will be ready to go! You want to keep an active schedule around exercising and in order to burn calories and lose weight, your body must be burning consistently. Remember, there are 24 hours in a day - you must find at least 1 within those 24 to dedicate to yourself!

3) Supplements - no replacement for exercise

Remember, they're called supplements for a reason: to "supplement" your workout routine. Supplements can help aid and speed up your weight loss but they are not going to replace exercise. Avoid diet pills and weight loss gimmicks that guarantee to make you lose weight while sitting on the couch doing nothing. There is no substitute for exercise! Plus, there is a feeling of accomplishment and confidence you gain after a great exhausting day of exercise that no magic pill can replace.

4) Avoiding Complacency

Your body can get used to the same workout plan and your fitness level can plateau if you don't find another way to shock your muscles. There are plenty of ways to change things up and still lose weight and stay fit besides running on a treadmill and lifting a dumbbell. Get outdoors and go hiking, kayaking, or bicycling for example. Take up yoga, tennis, swimming, or martial arts as all of these are great total body workouts. Learning something new while losing weight and staying fit can be some the most exciting parts of your everyday life/routine.

In conclusion, if you avoid these 4 pitfalls, your weight loss/fitness journey will be more effective and attainable in every aspect. Remember to make time for yourself, watch what you eat, supplement but don't replace exercise, and find different and fun ways to switch up your workout and become the new you!
