subject: Record Unemployment Levels See More People Turn Freelance [print this page]

Figures unveiled by the Office for National Statistics last week showed that once again youth unemployment rose to a record level during the three months to September. The data found that there are now more than one million people unemployed between the ages of 16 and 24 - 67,000 more than during the previous quarter. Unemployment among all those economically active within the UK increased by 129,000 between July and September to hit 2.62 million a 17-year high.

The difficulty in finding permanent employment these days is leading many to look at other ways to make a living, and one is proving to be especially popular in the current climate. Freelancing and setting up as a sole trader has become an awful lot easier thanks to the ever increasing popularity of the internet and the relative ease with which it is possible to find a match between the skills a person is able to offer and a company that is willing to pay money in order to utilise those skills.

Of course, freelancing and working as a sole trade requires a huge amount of dedication and effort, but for those willing to give their all and throw themselves into the task, there are significant rewards to be had. Along the obvious goal of being able to make money and support yourself and your family, freelancing and working for yourself can also provide a great sense of achievement and a sense of pride in your own abilities.

Anyone deciding to go freelance should first of all make sure as many people as possible know about their decision. While you don't want to pester friends and family members, there is a good chance that the first bits of work will come through established contacts, so it is important to make use of them. It is also important to let strangers know about the skills you have, and registering with an online marketplace that brings together providers and customers makes perfect sense. The more people that know you are out there the better.

Going through an established outsourcing marketplace will let businesses know that you are serious and will be able to provide them with a service that they can rely on critical knowledge for any company. So if you are thinking of starting up as a freelancer, make sure that you make the most of all the opportunities out there and sign-up to an online outsourcing marketplace today.
