subject: What Types Of Modern Fridge Freezers Are Available Today? [print this page]

When buying a new fridge freezer there is a lot to consider. This is because there are now such a wide range of models, meaning theres bound to be a fridge freezer that is ideal for you. This article will cover some of the aspects that define the different models.

Types of fridge freezer:

There are three main types of fridge freezer to choose from.

Firstly there is the freestanding model, which is easy to fit and is flexible. Also you are able to pick if you want the freezer section at the top or bottom of your fridge. This type of freezer is widely available and generally tends to be the cheapest. They are easy to fit into a kitchen and can be taken with you if you move house. Furthermore they are relatively cheap to run, costing between 18 and 100 a year. On the other hand, they have a smaller capacity than other fridge freezers and are not as stylish, so if youre partial to aesthetics then this might not be the right type of fridge for you.

Secondly, there are built in fridge freezers, which are integrated into the kitchen and are often hidden behind a cupboard door. Many people prefer the neat look that this provides, although this particular model cannot be easily transported to a new home. Built in fridge freezers tend to be slimmer, more compact and cost a similar price to run as a freestanding fridge freezer. However, there are fewer models available and they are likely to be more expensive than their freestanding equivalent.

Thirdly, you have side-by-side American style fridge freezers, and these do exactly what it says on the tin. They are popular models, most likely because they are stylish; and they offer nearly double the capacity of an ordinary fridge. In addition to this, side-by-side fridge freezers often come with extra features including icemakers, salad crisper compartments that will keep fruit and vegetables for longer and adjustable shelves that allow for a more versatile storage space.

Although these fridge freezers are appealing it is important to think about dimensions and costs. Obviously, side-by-side models require more space so they are suited to larger kitchens. Furthermore, they are more expensive than the freestanding fridge freezer or the built in fridge freezer. The running costs of the side-by-side models can also be noticeably higher, often between 35 and 100 a year, and the freezer compartments are sometimes too narrow for certain items.
