Social networks are the latest new frontier in a series of new frontiers on the Internet. Preceded by things like email, chat rooms, instant messengers and the like, social networks bring features from these disparate systems together under one roof, making it easier than ever before for people to socialize and shop. If you run a business and want to take advantage of this new era of advertising online, a social media marketing strategy should be an integral part of your overall Internet marketing strategy.

However, marketing on social media networks is a bit more involved than other forms of Internet marketing such as media buying or pay per click advertising. With those forms of media, you sort of set and forget them, making tweaks when you need to. However, with social media, you have to constantly engage with and be engaged by your customers on a constant basis. Therefore, I wanted to give you some tips to effective Social Media Marketing on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and others.

First, make sure your profile is up to date and current with the latest information about your company. This includes all general contact information, as well as current profile pictures and so on. Customers dont like seeing outdated information, so make sure your information is as current as possible. Next, keep customers up to date with the latest deals, but not too many at once. People love deals, but they dont like being overwhelmed. This could include daily deals and weekly deals, but also promotions as well.

Next, make sure to interact with your customers, and always in an open, honest and polite. If a customer has a complaint, deal with it openly. If a customer wants to share a story about their experience with you, let them and react accordingly, if needed. Customers like the idea of having a conversation with the people theyre buying products and services, so be available to them when you can.

Finally, make sure your social media profile is a full extension of your business, and make the most out of it. This includes pictures, social media-only coupons or deals and so on, and maybe some behind-the-scenes stuff that makes them feel like theyre part of a club. By engaging your customers, conversing with them and making them part of your family; youll make it much easier for them to decide to buy your products or services. Good luck!
