subject: The Holiday Season Is Almost Here [print this page]

Many of us are preparing for the holiday season, buying all fall decoration, charismas shopping and preparing to travel or to receive family in our homes. But in some cases our homes may need more than just superficial decoration. The winter is not completely here, in some areas, and there still is time to do your roof inspection.

The roof is the second most important structure in your house, and a water leak can cause major damages. If you find a water stain in your roof, do not over look it. You will not want this leak to get worst during the winter, or even worst when your house if full of guests.

Prepare yourself and your house and do an inspection of your roof. During a sunny, if you are comfortable, walk in your roof and make sure there are no missing shingles, curl up shingles, missing nails or holes. If your house has any of these sooner than later the water will find a way to penetrate your roof and if not now in the near future cause major problems to your home.

Another problem your house may encounter is the accumulation of debris, specially leafs during the fall. Leafs can gather in chimneys and ventilation pipes. Debris can cause moisture build up and if not clean soon, water underneath can find its way and penetrate the shingles, felt paper and last rotten the plywood creating a huge problem . Prevent this by cleaning them out With a leaf blower or sweeping down. If you do this make sure the leafs do not end up in the gutter. You want gutter to be clean for this season too.

The inspection is something you can do yourself, as mention before, but if you do not feel comfortable getting in top of your roof remember that there are roofing companies that can inspect your roof. Look for a reputable roof contractor that can perform a roof inspection. In some cases there is no cost to you.

We recommend you to look out for contractors that might just want to get your money. Make sure you do your necessary research about that roofer, ask for references and insurance. Keep in mind that a good roofer will be able to provide you with all of the necessary requirements you might have.

Remember that your safety is first, and if for some reason the project is bigger than what you expected have no dough to contact a professional who can help.
