subject: The Law Of Success: Making It Happen [print this page]

Through the years, the law of success has been misconstrued as painting a mental picture of what you really want based on the belief that you attract what you like the most. While this may have some bearing, the truth is, your rate of success will always depend on the amount AND quality of effort you exert. Topping all that hard work is a positive attitude, because on the flip side, there is the principle that you also attract what you fear!

So how can you make that so-called law work for you? Simply by working according to its basic tenets and exercising self-discipline and confidence along the way.

Be a thinker and a doer. The law of success rewards people who think hard about what they want and carry out a clear-cut plan in achieving their goal. Its about WORKING SMART. This means you are following correct steps and executing them in the best way possible, hence minimizing errors and working within a reasonable time frame. Dont subscribe to the belief that working long hours is a sure sign youre on the right track. On the contrary, it merely shows you are doing something wrong and its forcing you to extend beyond normal working hours.

Be a positive thinker. The greatest achievers in this world didnt dwell on their failures, stumbling blocks and things that have yet to happen. They carried on even in the face of humiliation. So, if you find yourself committing errors, dont be hard on yourself. The law of success does not reward quitters! It doesnt mean, however, that you need to force yourself to adopt a hyper-cheerful persona. That would feel and look so fake! Positive thinking is about believing that you will overcome obstacles. The day you stop believing in yourself is the day you let your dreams die.

Be a cheerleader to yourself. Not everyone in your circle will be supportive or encouraging. You will discover especially during tough times that you will need to rely on your own internal motivation and self-discipline to weather the challenges. So, keep giving yourself a pat on the back for each accomplishment, big or small.

Be deaf to discouragement. Tune out the trolls in your life. These trolls could be anyone, like that boorish uncle who likes to put you down during family reunions by comparing you to his own child. Or perhaps you had the misfortune of encountering a callous Human Resources staff member who tells you that your skills are not in demand in the current job market. Trolls will always try to put down others to make themselves feel better. Dont give them the satisfaction of acknowledging them. Continue doing what you do best and forget their harsh words.

Be ready to make some sacrifices. And do them willingly. The law of success looks favorably upon people who willingly make sacrifices in order to reap the fruits of their labor in the future. Famous successful people had to pay their dues in different ways. Many Hollywood superstars, for example, had to endure in the past some humiliating auditions and rejections before landing their breakthrough roles. Yet, they are shining examples that by working hard and smart and believing in yourself, the law will work for you!
