subject: Hot Winter Items From Nascar Jackets To Pleats [print this page]

Ahhhhh, fashionAhhhhh, fashion. Some love it, some hate it. I, personally, am somewhere in between. I love style, but hate trends; I love classic looks that are flattering, but hate passing fads that have everyone wearing the same thing. Think of me as your much more budget-realistic host of "What Not To Wear." Someone who doesn't live in Manhattan, does much of her shopping at thrift stores and online clearance sales, and thinks that buying a brand new wardrobe every season is not only silly and wasteful, but downright egotistical.

Do you really think anybody notices what you wear enough to be judgmental about the fact that you are wearing a skirt from 3 years ago, and a pair of boots from last winter? Nope. And, really, if they do notice, don't you think that's their problem for not having a life? I mean, children are starving in 3rd world countries every day, and someone is that concerned with their wardrobe?

Well, now, I will get down from my soap box, and finish writing about what I began: Fashion. Classic, look-good-on-you-and-don't-spend-a-fortune fashion. Let's be honest, some of the hot trends this season are not so great, but some are actually pretty fun, so let's dig in.

First of all, let me just say that the whole androgynous look really shouldn't be coming back in style. What's wrong with wanting to look like a woman with curves? Huh? I am not saying some of it doesn't look okay, but, it's way too much, and really, that style only looks good on certain body types, and you really have to have the right personality to pull it off.

However, texture and color are also coming back in this winter. Hooray for no more black and grey trench-coats! Actually, I own a black winter coat because it's classic, but I always pair it with a brightly colored scarf to off-set the drab. That being said, I really love that designers this year are playing with a lot of color, some great prints, layers of pleats and frill, and multiple textures for some bold looks.

For the playful, kid-hearted, out there, there are some really fun animal hats to keep you warm, and also show off your playful side. Just, do me a favor, and stay away from the really realistic ones, just in case a hunter mistakes you for his target.

For the athletic types out there, character jackets and NASCAR jackets are a great way to show your support for your favorite driver while staying toasty warm.

Longer skirts and hats are also popular this year. I love that the mid length and longer skirts are fashionable, again, because, even though they can sometimes make you look shorter, when it's below freezing outside, frankly, you just want something warm. Pair a longer skirt with some stylish boots, and, voila, toasty warm legs and feet that still scream style.

Well, now that you have some ideas of what are back in style this year, BE RESPONSIBLE, and only wear what works for your body type, budget, and personality. Why would you want to be anyone but you?
