subject: Tamerica Tcc-2100 Comb Binding Machine Review [print this page] Plastic comb binding continues to be most of the most common and popular methods for binding books, reports and presentations. This style of binding is colorful, durable and can be used to bind material up to 2" thick. One solid option many people choose from binding documents is the Tamerica TCC-2100 comb binder from ABCOffice.com. I have used this machine and this is my review.
The TCC-2100 is one of Tamericas newest additions to its comb binding lineup. This machine feature a more modern design, when compared to some of their more traditional machines. This includes rounded corners and a brushed steel and charcoal gray look. This machine is aesthetically pleasing and blends in well with existing office dcor.
Lets get down to what this machine can do. The Tamerica TCC-2100 is a 19-ring plastic comb binding machine. This means that it punches 19-holes along the 11" side of a sheet of paper. It technically has 21 punching pins (for A4 paper), although few people use all these punching pins.
Each of the 21 punching pins are disengageable, which means the can be turned off or on by simply pulling out a lever. So why would you ever need a machine with disengageable dies? If you have ever used a comb binding machine to bind the 8 " side of a sheet of paper or for custom documents, you may have ended up with a half-punched hole. While this may not ultimately affect the bind, it looks bad. This is a must-have feature if you are binding non-common paper sizes. A hole pattern is also printed on the base of the cutter, making it easy to tell where the holes will be punching.
The TCC-2100 can be used to bind as few as 2 sheets of paper or as many as about 500 (2" thick). This means the TCC-2100 is perfect for binding a small report or a large instructional book. It is extremely versatile. Thanks to a nice punching base, punching and working with books of varying thicknesses is easy.
This comb binder utilizes a horizontal punch. This means that paper lays flat when it is punched. A series of hollow punching pins can be used to punch through up to 20 sheets of paper at a time. Hollow punches, combined with a nice long handle, makes paper punching on the TCC-2100 extremely easy. While I wouldnt use this machine to punching and bind hundreds of books a day, it can easily handle dozens a day.
The build quality on this machine is excellent, although not quite up to Akiles standards. It features all-metal construction and an impressive 2-year warranty. Rubber pads on the bottom of the machine keep this machine from sliding around the table. It also includes a convenient waste tray for collecting punched paper.
