subject: Use Self-monitoring Tools To Control Signs Of High Blood Sugar [print this page]

With an advent in technology, researchers are inventing most reliable tools for monitoring the blood glucose levels under safe limits. Many people feel slight difficulty while examining their glucose range as few methods are not just time-consuming and expensive but also sometimes not accurate. Although there are few devices which can be used as better alternative for measuring the sugar levels instead of using a lancet to draw the blood from finger.

New Perspectives on self-examining of Glucose levels

Medical experts are now using different equipments for monitoring blood glucose levels which they also recommend to their patients for a self-check at their homes. This convenient-to-use self-monitoring technology is doing well and is beneficial in terms of both medical and financial perspective to the patients which confirm signs of high blood sugar or low blood sugar.

Measured glucose levels can make aware and permit patients to opt for a suitable dose of insulin to normalize their raised blood sugars. The basic tool for monitoring blood sugar is Glucometer which is small, portable and can be used independently at home or at work. Testing your blood glucose involves putting blood droplet on the blood glucose examination strip and with the exact reading you can take the required action.

With emerging technology, things have become quite easier now, as researchers are making advancement in developing portable and fast examining system that simply scan a persons finger or arm and show the readings. New techniques are effective and simpler which do not involve finger sticks/needles to puncture a patients finger for a blood sample.

There are some basic ways for determining variation in blood sugar counts such as:

Fasting Blood Sugar Test (FBS)

Oral Glucose Tolerance (OGTT)

Two-hour Postprandial Test

Simple or Random Evaluation

Hemoglobin A1C or Glycated hemoglobin test

According to a new study, Diabetics can improve their blood sugar control using mobile phone technology

In this process, patients use software in their mobile phones. This software has awarded the real-time feedback of each patients glucose levels. The test results are sent from wirelessom monitoring devices to mobile phones which also suggest action for controlling irregular sugar levels in blood.

Check blood sugar using high-tech contact lenses

Institute of Fluorescence at the University of Maryland has developed an amazing way to deal with the problems of irregular glucose levels in which contact lenses will monitor blood sugar levels. These contact lenses have a very small sensor spot on the surface that perceives the amount of glucose present in tears. If the sensor is placed inside the visual field, the person wearing the lenses can detect the color change. When placed outside the visual field, he or she can only see the change by looking in a mirror. This technology is also under review and will be very beneficial in the coming time.

The above mentioned facts tell us that many new types of technologies are increasingly being developed and applied to fight complications related with blood sugar levels. New technologies will improve the lives of people having glucose level problems by measuring glucose and other biomarkers of glycemic control. The promise in the near term of these technologies is not only to help us reduce significantly the risk of long-term complications related to deviation in glucose levels but also has the potential to help patients better self-manage any chronic disease.
