subject: Is There Such A Thing As A Real Person Anymore? [print this page] You have seen the adsYou have seen the ads. You have succumbed to the magazines, television, radio, and billboards. You feel inferior, frumpy, and dowdy because you might have a line or two upon your face. You may, heaven forbid, have a saggy chest or a stomach that bore children. You may have thighs that aren't tights and firm, a buttock that no one could bounce a coin off and upper arms that wave hours after you are through. Yes, you are a human being, and no, you are not perfect.
The crazy part is that the billboards, ads, commercials, and magazine women aren't real either. Models have said that they don't recognize themselves when viewed in magazines. Men's legs are used instead of women's for shaving ads, as they are shapelier than women's are. People in ads are photo shopped, sculpted, transformed, manipulated until they barely resemble the people they truly are. For a good time, go online and watch examples of model manipulation; cheek bones are raised, hair made fuller, cheeks more hollow, eyes wider, eye brows lower, neck longer, until it no longer resembles the original model. Dove has a wonderful YouTube video with a perfect example of this.
Like Dove says, "no wonder our perceptive of beauty is so distorted". Dove has a valid point; girls are killing themselves to achieve a level that doesn't even exist. Interesting. So, where are the boundaries? What is too much and what just helps to enhance self-esteem and make you more presentable to your peers, coworkers, and family? Does the complete human race need to be plucked, tucked, and sucked? We would have to be to keep up with the models on TV. While you are at it, never grow older than 25. How can you find confidence with being real?
A tricky question. Real confidence has to come from within. There is no other source. You have to know who you are. It certainly helps to be a likeable person; funny, warm, sincere, a good friend, a good listener, and cut out the negative. If you need a little outside help to help you feel more approachable think about learning the art of makeup, whitening and straightening your teeth; cosmetic dentist in NYC can help with those minor changes for more confidence.
You can be the real you, the beautiful, confident you, not the media's twisted idea of beauty. Find your inner beauty and sparkle with confidence. The real human race can't become extinct, we're counting on you!
