The blades for home wind turbine Kit products can be very complicated. They really don't have to be.

One could argue that the blades on home wind turbine kit products are more important than any other single element of the design of the device. If you don't get this part right it doesn't really matter how efficient your motor is or, how much your wind turbine is designed to achieve. None of it will matter because you will simply not get energy out the product that you expect.

The function of the blades is to turn the shaft of the turbine which then, in turn, rotates the shaft inside the motor housing, which produces electricity that will be used at the load source.

The main objective of course is to make blades that will last a long time but also convert the majority of wind you have into electricity. The more of a bite they take out of the wind, the stronger they will turn the shaft of the turbine and the more electricity you make.

The following are the factors the designers take into consideration when they are making products for the market:

* The length of the blade is very important. It can determine the number blades that are necessary.

* Also, the number of blades which ties in closely with the length of the blades, is crucial to modern wind turbine design.

* How the blades are pitched will have a big impact on the amount of electricity that is produced.

* The materials chosen for making the blades, as stated earlier, also makes a big difference. This is because the weight of the material will determine how quickly a light wind will begin to turn the blades and then the wind turbine shaft.

Of course, all of these factors figure in to the weight of the entire rotor system. The lighter the weight of the blade system, the more quickly will turn a light wind.

Home wind turbine kit blade design isn't a difficult aerodynamic science like for larger wind turbines found on wind farms. And, it's really not that complicated. It's just a matter of optimizing the weight surface area of the blades themselves.
