subject: Succeeding In Your Career Plans [print this page]

Pursuing ones dream job and ambitions in life involves many steps that range from planning, doing a job search, earning experience and taking on higher roles. However, there are no clear-cut steps or formula that one has to take or complete to be able to succeed in ones plans. Everything varies and its up to you to work hard on what you want to be able to get it.

Career planning is a very important step in pursuing a career path that is both personally and professionally fulfilling. For most people, career planning starts with deciding what they want. This involves thinking about your passion, interests and goals and transforming them into real-life activities and steps. Then comes the mapping out of the different ways you can do to be able to get to your goals.

Contrary to popular belief, getting different experiences in different fields and industries is professionally enhancing as compared to being an expert in a single field even when the position is already a senior level. This is because working in different fields helps you adapt to changes and learn new skills to be able to survive outside your comfort zone. Moreover, biting more that you can chew could be good thing professionally. When at work, when you take on new tasks especially the ones that you are not very good at, you will also be forced to work harder and in some surprising scenarios, get good results. This could help you learn more and exhibit good performance in the work place and later on, have something to show for when looking for another job.

Curiosity is a very significant trait that is observed among children and that is still applicable even in the employed world. With curiosity, you go beyond what you know and discover opportunities that are often overlooked. With curiosity, you get fueled enough to walk in the road less taken. Do not narrow your career options and add more choices to your job search. Take on roles that help you become familiar with strange work places and difficult terminologies. Accept different roles. That way, you could gain more knowledge and develop more skills that can contribute to your becoming a well-rounded person. Curiosity also helps you get in difficult situations that force you to develop professional skills that will make you a more valuable and marketable jobseeker in the future when you decide to pursue your career further.
