subject: Choosing The Right Carpet [print this page]

Some people believe that looking for the right carpeting is and should be an easy and quick process; however, simply picking the first thing that is found is never a good idea. In order to ensure that the carpet works well with the home or office, certain things should be placed under consideration.

1. Purpose and Lifestyle of Room

When thinking about what carpet to invest in, the person in charge should consider the purpose and lifestyle of the room that the carpet will be placed inside. If the room belongs to a child or young adult, and there would be a great deal of traffic, something that wears easily should be avoided. If the room is seldom used except for special occasions, the carpet can be more expensive and be made of fancier and more delicate materials.

2. Color and Length of Carpet

Simply considering where the carpet will be placed is not enough. In order to ensure that installation runs smoothly and that there will not be any problems later, the color and length of the carpet should play a part in the decision. Carpets that are dark in color, for example, are more likely to show dust, light colored trash and some stains. Light colored carpet is also susceptible to showing stains and trash, while also displaying areas that get the most traffic and wear. The length of the carpet is especially important in office settings. Chairs and other furniture can become trapped and cause damage if employees try to move something.

3. How Often It Will Need To Be Cleaned

People that are on a tight budget or do not like to clean should keep in mind the kind of carpet that they should invest in. Very expensive carpet that is vulnerable to a great deal of traffic should not be chosen for a home that has a lot of people. If the home has one or more animals that spend time outside or frequently become sick, this should also be kept in mind. Carpets that need to be cleaned a great deal should not be made of material that is too cheap, as this can mean replacing the carpet often.

Carpeting can play an important part in how the feeling of a room comes together. Carpet that is too long and brightly colored may not be appropriate for business settings. At the same time, carpet that is too flat and plain would not work for home settings. It is important to think about how the carpet will be used and what it will be exposed to when coming to a decision. Weighing the options and using common sense can help a person find something that works for them.
