subject: Article Writing Tips: How Creativity Can Improve Sales And Readership [print this page]

Article writing tips that dont address creativity can have a detrimental effect on sales and conversions. Writing professionally is important, but its also important not to bore your readers. This requires adaptability and creativity in your writing that often cannot be taught in a classroom or in a book, because when it comes to writing articles there are no rules for creativity. Infusing your work with creativity- or at least the occasional piece- will not only prevent your audience from getting bored, it will keep you as the author from getting bored as well. However, there are fewer article writing tips that are harder to convey than how to write creatively.

The best way to learn how to write creatively is to read and listen. For instance, I recently heard a radio ad that immediately caught my attention. I dont remember exactly how it went, but the general idea was that there were two people having a discussion about what seemed to be a womans breasts:

WOW, her melons were so huge and firm I couldnt believe it! Says person 1.

I know, and the way she held cradled them in her hands made me so hungry! Those were the perkiest melons Ive seen in a long time! Says person 2.

This conversation goes back forth for a bit, talking about how one womans melons came in so much earlier and were so much bigger than another womans, and so on. Whats the ad for? A growers supply company.

This ad was a great example of how to write creative copy that grabs the readers attention and then keeps it with memorable imagery, irony, or some other unique aspect. The melon ad got my creative juices flowing and I started thinking about how I could creatively sell services in a way that didnt have to be so dry. I was walking my dog thinking about copy for a new restaurant menu a client needed when the following idea occurred to me. And while its not something I would actually post on my services page, it is a unique example of how you can use creativity to improve your conversions by attracting and retaining your readers attention:

Creating fun but compelling and useful copy is a great idea to implement your article writing skills, but you should use it sparingly and never in an attempt to deceive the reader by attracting them with witty or unique copy alone. Your creative copy must have relevance.

For instance, I saw a post on the Warrior Forum recently where a user posted a unique ad:

"There's only 183 000 km's on this all-wheel drive hellcat from Planet Kickass. Trust me, it will outlive you and the offspring that will carry your name. It will live on as a monument to your machismo."

The entire ad went on with language like this for several hundred words, but when you clicked through to see the vehicle it was just a beat-up Subaru with an asking price of $2,000: not even worth the copy that sold it. So while the ad was unique and interesting, it ultimately only served to disappoint.

Creativity is important for any professional writer, but a careful balance must be struck in order to use it properly. Writers often find that rigid professionalism bores their readers and constant weirdness or strange uniqueness can cause readers to take a work less seriously. Therefore, moderation is the key when it comes to this creative article writing tip.
