subject: The Best Selling Iphone 4s And Powerful Samsung Galaxy S2 Compared [print this page] The new Apple iPhone 4S has proven to be wildly popular, despite only having been available for a few days. It has already sold over 4 million units, more than the original iPhone 4 sold in the same time frame.
There has been a lot of media hype regarding its release, as there always is with Apple products. However, at the same time, Samsung also reported record-breaking sales of its latest flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S2.
Pitted against each other, which comes out on top? In this article I intend to find out, so if you are in the market for a new smartphone, or trying to decide between the two, read on...
iPhone 4S
When Apple announced the iPhone 4S in its recent keynote speech, they unveiled a number of upgrades over the original iPhone 4. These included a new dual-core processor, upgraded digital camera, as well as a number of innovative new applications, the most noteworthy of which is the new voice activated personal assistant called Siri. This enables users to carry out numerous different tasks, simply by telling the phone to do so. Much of what is good about the iPhone 4 remains, such as its retina display and its great design and build quality, whilst some of its flaws have been ironed out, such as the antenna issues which several people reported. Overall, it remains much the same as its predecessor, but has had several upgrades in terms of both hardware and software, as the S in its title would suggest.
Samsung Galaxy S2
The Samsung Galaxy S2 showcases what a premium Android-powered smartphone should be like. Performance wise (on paper at least), it matches the iPhone 4S, with a similar dual-core processor, high resolution touchscreen (although not quite on par with the iPhones retina display) and an 8 megapixel camera with full HD video capture. Naturally, when comparing the two, people will look for similarities in features like Siri, which the Samsung Galaxy S2 does not offer. But saying that, it has been available since April, and Siri represents Apples latest developments, so they have had time of their side. As mentioned, the Samsung Galaxy S2 runs on the Android OS, with the Samsung TouchWiz user interface over the top. Android and Apples iOS are two very different operating systems, so it would be unfair to say one is better than the other, as in reality this is down to an individuals personal preference.
So which is the better smartphone?
Having been released more recently, the iPhone 4S has the benefit of including more recently developed technology. There is no doubt about the fact that it has a great screen, camera, and processor, but the Samsung matches the iPhone in most these arenas. Apps are a large part of the appeal of smartphones, and Apples AppStore does offer many more apps than the Samsung Galaxy S2s provider, Android market, and the general consensus is that they are of better quality.
In my opinion the iPhone 4S just beats the Samsung Galaxy S2 to the post, as its apps and multimedia ecosystem (integration with iTunes, iPod and AppStore) are superior to those of the Samsung device. Hardware wise, they are on a fairly level playing field; therefore, I believe that choosing between the two comes down to an individuals personal preference for either Android or iOS. In reality, they are both great phones, and whichever handset one chooses, it is unlikely they will be left disappointed, as they both offer the best of their respective manufacturers technology.
