Virginia Tech Hokies
After four straight wins against unranked teams, the Hokies lost to Clemson by 20. Now the team is working on a four-game win streak heading into a meeting with a nationally ranked opponent.
In seven of the eight wins, the Hokies have allowed 17 points or fewer, including in a 14-10 road win over Duke two Saturdays agothe Hokies' 11th straight win away from home.
Virginia Tech ranks sixth nationally in scoring defense, allowing just 15 points per game. They are also giving up only 298 total yards per contest212 passing and just 86 rushing. The unit has recorded 27 sacks and forced 17 turnovers.
Bruce Taylor leads the defense with 53 tackles, adding five sacks, while Antone Exum has 51 stops with one sack, one interception, one forced fumble and one recovery. J. R. Collins leads the team with six sacks and Jayron Hosley has three picks.
The V-Tech offense ranks 52nd nationally with 29 points per game, but is 24th in rushing offense (200 yards per game), helping them to 428 yards of total offense per contest.
David Wilson anchors the vaunted rushing attack with 1,185 yards and seven touchdowns on 6.3 yards per carry. Quarterback Logan Thomas and tailback Josh Oglesby have also helped the ground game, accounting for a combined 538 yards and 12 scores.
Thomas completes 61 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,934 yards and 11 TDs with seven interceptions.
The offensive line has allowed just nine sacks.
Danny Coale has 42 catches for 627 yards and two TDs, while Jarrett Boykin adds 38 grabs for 481 yards and three scores.
Hosley averages 11 yards per punt return.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
After a 6-0 start, the Yellow Jackets lost two straight games, but then rattled the BCS standings with a 31-17 upset of Clemson two Saturdays ago. That win moved the Jackets to 5-0 at home.
Georgia Tech's spread-option offense ranks 17th nationally in scoring offense (38 ppg) and second in rushing (328 ypg) while compiling 475 yards of offense per game.
Tevin Washington leads this option attack with 636 rushing yards and 10 TDs (3.8 ypc) and has completed 48 percent of his passes for 1,199 yards and 10 TDs with six INTs.
When Washington hands the ball off his top partner is David Sims, with 564 yards and four TDs (5.5 ypc).
When Washington throws, his top target is Stephen Hill, who has 20 catches for 608 yards and four scores.
Defensively, the Yellow Jackets are a respectable 45th nationally in points allowed (23 ppg). They are allowing 347 yards per game185 passing, 162 rushing.
This unit has recorded 18 sacks and forced 17 turnovers, with two of those picks being returned for scores (Isaiah Johnson and Rod Sweeting).
Julian Burnett is the stopper with 81 tackles (33 more than any teammate), adding a sack and a fumble recovery. Jeremiah Attaochu has four sacks with a forced fumble and recovery, and Johnson and Sweeting each have three interceptions and a recovery.
