subject: Keep Your Diet And Fitness Training Going [print this page] One of the greatest de-motivators of sticking to our diet and fitness training is a lack of results. You tend to notice your biggest results right off the bat. Simple diet and fitness changes will give you results and the motivation to continue! But if those results plateau, so does your desire to keep going. Here are a few tips on keeping the goal alive, and changing things up a bit.
1) Same ol same ol. If youre doing the same workout week after week, at the same weights, intensity etc youre not going to see anymore change. If all you care about is maintaining then keep doing what youre doing! If not, try switching the weights up a bit and the intensity. If youre use to 10lbs weights at 12 reps, switch to 12lbs weights or even 15lbs weights and do 8 reps. Remember, muscle not momentum! Id rather see you do fewer reps and focus on using muscle than more reps and focusing on just getting thru the workout.
2) If youre training while tuning into your favorite TV programs, thats a sign you need to change it up! Try adding interval training to your fitness routine. After warming up for 5-10 minutes, try an exercise at 100% of your max and then bring it down to 50% for 2 minutes during another exercise. Keep that going for 20-30 minutes. You will definitely see changes.
3) When using cardio equipment, try not to rest on the handlebars. We tend to do so when feeling tired but this decreases the number of calories being burned and doesnt engage your core.
4) Wanna burn more on the treadmill? Try inclining it 6-10%. You will burn a lot more calories and work your quads and butt more than a standard zero incline.
5) How many protein shakes, energy bars and sports drinks are on the market these days? Too many! All claiming to support your overall healthy diet plan. You dont need to fill your day with them. Water beats out a sugary sports drink any day and consuming too many bars/shakes can pile on the calories. Use them as a last resort, not as a daily staple.
6) Late night snacking. This is one of my constant battles. I find throughout the day I can fight off the cravings but once I settle into a nigh time program on TV, my willpower fades. It helps big time if I make sure I dont have junk in the house. If youre keeping a food log (as Ive told you many time to do) actually having to write down that you consumed 8 cookies will deter you from doing it at least I hope it will!
I hope these simple suggestions help your diet and fitness training. Also incorporating and easy fitness routine in your daily exercise program can only help keep those pounds off.
