subject: How To Keep Your Car Battery Running Smoothly [print this page]

Your car battery is essentially the heart of your car; without it your vehicle will not be able to start. Luckily, if it breaks, you can simply replace your battery, but if you dont have the money for that it is a good idea to keep your car battery in tip-top condition to prevent it from breaking.

One of the most common causes of car battery failure is extreme weather conditions. Batteries do not like extreme heat or cold and they can affect the batterys working power. If your car has been sitting out in extreme cold all night, there's a chance it wont want to start in the morning. The easiest way to stop this is to store your car inside overnight, either in your own garage or in a rented one close to your home.

If your battery has stopped working there may be a way to get it up and running again, but you will need some equipment to do so. Having a set of jump leads with battery clips is a good idea even if your battery is in perfect working order, as they can add peace of mind. With these you can connect your battery up to another cars, so that you can jump start it and get your car to the nearest garage.

If you dont see yourself as much of a mechanic there are also jump leads that allow you to charge your battery without even lifting the cars bonnet. These kinds of jump leads plug into the cigarette lighters of each car and charge your battery that way.

You could also get a power pack that you can charge to re-start your battery. It works the same way as the jump lead method but is more portable and doesnt require help from another person.

If the worst happens and your car battery simply refuses to start you could be looking at buying a new one. You can either let your mechanic handle the entire job, or you can buy the parts yourself and get them to fit them. If you decide to do this you will need to know the exact type of battery that you need, which you should be able to find out about in your car manual. Failing that, your mechanic will be able to tell you.

By buying your own car battery you can be sure that you are getting the best value for money, so look online now.
