subject: Eat Out And Still Lose Weight [print this page]

If you are tired of cooking all your meals at home, dining out can be a great treat. But it is also known that restaurant food can sometimes be an unhealthy choice compared to that of your home cooked meals. This can make it difficult to make a healthy decision. Fortunately, there is a way to enjoy a meal out without the worry of putting on empty calories.

1. Dine at vegetarian restaurants. Visiting vegetarian places that only offer vegetarian meals is a great option. This does not mean that meals that are non-vegetarian are unhealthy. Meals that are not vegetarian, more often than not, have higher fat and calorie contents.

Ordinarily chicken meat is good for you but you do need to watch ordering it in some restaurants as they load it up with extra fats. Lean chicken meat is certainly healthy for you but most restaurants do not stock this type of chicken to serve. Therefore, choosing a vegetarian restaurant is the safer option.

2. Give up the salad dressing. It is common knowledge that consuming salads is good for weight loss. The reason being is that salads are nothing but chopped up raw vegetables. Eating more raw vegetables is great for boosting your metabolic rate and in turn, getting your body to shed more fat. But in most cases, restaurant salads will come served with a high calorie dressing. So if ordering salads, don't forget to ask them to leave the salad dressing off.

3. Keep clear of buffet meals. The majority of food on offer at buffets are high in calories. These types of foods are made up in bulk and usually have large amounts of oil, which make the food off limits to those wanting to shed weight. If you really want to eat buffet style, go for the healthier options like salads and veges. This will ensure you will not be consuming any extra calories than necessary.

4. Eat smaller portions. Before you start eating, check the portion size is adequate. If you think you have been served too much, pack the excess into a container to take home. Most restaurants have boxes for leftovers if you ask. As long as you mind the above tips when eating out next, there is nothing wrong with dining out.
