subject: Cash-strapped Student? Rent Textbooks And Save Hundreds. [print this page]

Every year college gets more expensive, and thousands of students around the country are finding themselves in ever-increasing piles of debt. While some expenses are unavoidable (such as tuition), others can be greatly reduced. One of the easiest way to save money is by electing to rent textbooks instead of buying them. Have you already heard about textbook rentals? Textbook rentals make a lot of sense when you think about it. How many times have you needed a textbook multiple semesters? Maybe a couple of times, but if youre like me, not that often. Instead of buying an expensive textbook, using it for a couple of months, and selling it back at a huge loss, why not just pay a small rental fee at the beginning of the term, return the textbook at the end, and save yourself the hassle (not to mention hundreds of dollars).

The average price of a rental textbook is considerably cheaper than what you would pay to purchase it, meaning that you wont have to scramble to come up with enough cash to purchase all your required textbooks. Perhaps even better, you wont have to worry if the bookstore will buy back your textbooks, and if so for how much. That has always been one of the greatest sources of frustration for many students; realizing that even though the bookstore will buy back their textbooks, the will only do so for a fraction of the price that the student paid at the beginning of the term. With rental textbooks, however, you never have to worry about that again.

Some students may worry that renting textbooks might be a hassle, but in all reality its much more convenient than purchasing your textbooks. If you rent your textbooks from a website, your textbooks will be delivered straight to your door. At the end of the term, all you have to do is pack up your books, attach the return shipping label, and drop the package in the mail. Most companies even include the price of return shipping in your initial rental fee!

Sure, college can be expensive, and the sad reality is that that probably isnt going to change anytime soon. With textbook rentals, however, you can at least slash your textbook budget. When it all comes down to it, you can either pay more to buy your textbooks, or pay much less to rent your textbooks. As for me, Im going to pay less.
