subject: Bingo fans prove age is no barrier to partying [print this page] Bingo is a popular game in the UK and elsewhere with both older and younger people - many of whom are drawn to it for the excitement and possibility of picking up prizes.
And a group of pensioners have proved that age is no barrier to enjoying bingo games, the Mirror reports.
Residents in a sheltered housing complex situated in Great Barr, Birmingham had to be warned after it was suggested they had brought in outsiders to get involved in the activity.
It was alleged the fun-loving individuals took non-residents into the common room to play bingo games and, rather than drawing proceedings to a close, they kept going until 02:00 BST.
As well as enjoying their favourite numbers-based pastime, they were said to be listening to loud music. Indeed, so raucous was the get together that other people in the complex complained.
Officials from the local council have stepped in and sent letters to those involved - some of whom have reached the impressive age of 90 - warning them about their behaviour.
Jean Walton, who moved into the housing earlier this year, is one of those at the centre of the dispute. She claims her party finished at 23:10 BST and added: "I don't want to vegetate for the rest of my life. We have a room and we should use it for fun."
So, while online versions of bingo are taking the UK by storm among people of all ages, it seems the older generation is firmly keeping the spirit of live versions of the activity alive.
These pensioners from Great Barr, which straddles the boundaries of Birmingham, West Bromwich and Walsall, are by no means alone.
Bingo halls across the country are filled each week by people keen to involved in the action and get their hands on some of the prizes on offer.
