Here we take a look at two such models, the HTC Rhyme and the Blackberry Curve 9360, to see what these attractively priced models have to offer.
In terms of design both of these handsets are among the most stylish that either brand have ever released. The HTC Rhyme is available in a choice of three eye catching colours that compliment the striking curved design that the device offers. Despite the full Qwerty keypad dominating the fascia of the 9360 this model manages to look like a much more expensive model than it actually is. The handset is one of the slimmest Blackberrys available at just 11mm depth and this slim design is finished off nicely with some neat metallic touches that give the phone a touch of class. Being a touchscreen phone the HTC Rhyme obviously offers a much larger screen than the Blackberry as it has no physical keys to take up space on the front panel. This screen measures 3.7 inches and uses S-LCD technology to produce outstanding image quality. The screen supports multi touch gestures and is capable of displaying a very high resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The Curve 9360 screen measures 2.44 inches and offer a respectable 480 x 360 resolution. The display is not a touchscreen as the handset uses an optical trackpad which is located directly beneath the screen. Despite the clarity evident on the Blackberry screen it is no match for the high quality that the HTC Rhyme can deliver.
With regards to battery life on these two models the HTC Rhyme offers the more impressive figures. Thanks to a powerful 1600mAh battery the handset delivers standby times of approximately 410 hours and a talk time of 6.83 hours. The Curve 9360 struggles to match this with its smaller 1000mAh battery and can only offer around 5 hours of talktime and 348 hours in standby. Both of these devices offer good processing power meaning that they both provide great performance speeds. The Rhyme incorporates a 1Ghz single core processor which is partnered by 768MB of RAM memory. The Blackberry offers a slightly smaller 800Mhz processor and 512MB of RAM but performance is similar to the Rhyme thanks to the Blackberry operating system offering more efficient power management than the demanding Android platform that the Rhyme uses.
There are some superb handsets available when you look beyond the well known smartphones that are available and these models are two of the best . There is little to choose between the two devices but the HTC Rhyme has the edge when it comes to design, screen quality and battery performance.
