subject: Whats New With .net Framework 4.5 And Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview? [print this page]

Visual Studio 11 Developer Preview and .NET 4.5 are being announced in this September. For Windows 8, .NET 4.5 is already out with all new exciting features. For trying Visual Studio 11 Developer, it is necessary to have Windows 7 or later version of Operating System.

Visual Studio 11 provides an integrated development experience that spans the entire lifecycle of software creation from architecture to code creation, testing and beyond.

This Microsoft Dot NET framework, .NET 4.5 allows you to easily use Windows 8 technologies like Windows Runtime. The data can be easily accessed now with support of new features in SQL Server and support for WebSockets. With support for WebSockets protocol, you can read and write both string and binary data.

Though the performance of .NET 4 was already nice, a lot of effort is spent in this release for improving the performance of Task Parallel Library [TPL]. It uses bundling and minification of client scripts for faster loading. Bundling combines different JavaScript files together and Minification reduces the size of JavaScript as well as CSS files by removing unnecessary characters. This increases the loading speed of scripts.

The best feature introduced in both the languages is the introduction of new keywords await/async. These keywords makes easy to write asynchronous HTTP modules and asynchronous HTTP handlers. Moreover, ASP.NET 4.5 makes easy for users to selectively read invalidated request data and also integrates the popular AntiXSS library [external library].

The .NET 4.5 Framework and Windows 8 together introduced certain features that boost the performance for web server workloads. This also includes reduction in startup time and in the memory footprint of web hosting sites that use ASP.NET.

Visual Studio 11 Developer preview includes two major new features that are Editor Support for CSS3, and Editor Support for HTML5 and JavaScript. All new features are designed to provide an integrated set of tools for delivering great user and application experiences, whether working as a team or individually. It also includes set of templates that allows users to develop Metro style applications with JavaScript, C#, VB or C++. The blank template application available is provided for the simplest starting point for the default project structure which has sample resources and images. The grid view, split view and navigation templates are specially designed to provide a starting point for more complex user interfaces.

The .NET 4.5 have focused mainly on top developers requests across all key technologies and has included all new features for asynchronous programming in C# and Visual Basic. It helps developers to write the codes faster. It also incorporated support for state machines in Windows workflow and increased investments in HTML5, CSS3, device detection, page optimization and the NuGet package system in ASP.NET. It also introduced new functionality with MVC4.
