subject: A Nifty Way To Drive A Classic Car Without Paying Arm And Legs. [print this page] Oftentimes I hear old timers saying stuff like they dont make them like they used to. While this might apply in many different contexts, in this case I am referring to cars. It is true that the design and engineering of automobiles has changed dramatically from decade to decade. I dont know whether it is possible to say that one era was better than another though. In a way it is normal to be nostalgic about your younger days, and a person living a few decades back is very likely to reminisce. From my perspective, generally speaking, decades ago cars were larger and heavier. They were made of bulkier materials. The designs were creative; I myself like the 1950s style cars, even though I was not alive then.
The concept of manufacturing an entire automobile is an interesting one. The assembly line was a concept that Henry Ford introduced. With each worker specializing in one and only one task it sped up the process tremendously. While there might have been some disadvantages to this specialization, under the form of workers being too one dimensional, overall the net advantages were positive. It allowed the industrialization of the autos as mass production became standard. Later the process was sped up further by other advancing technologies. Now most of the work on assembly lines is done by robot like mechanisms. This in itself is mind boggling in addition to the many twists and turns of the automobile itself. The automation process has a huge impact on our society because it affects other industries. Not only are the products themselves affected, but the labor force too. A lot of professions have disappeared over the years as a result of this automation. I wander how far it will go as we move along in the 21st century. How people will be affected, their jobs, their ability to earn income, as well as their daily chores, and the way they conduct their daily lives. I often wandered what the world will look like, not only 100 years from now but even a measly 20 years from now.
Such cars can still be found today; not only in collectors garages, but also at places such as car rental companies. They are very nice to look at. In addition, rental companies give you the opportunity to rent and drive for a while (as the name implies).
