subject: Who Is Going To Win Texas A&m V. Oklahoma [print this page]

With a BCS bowl still at stake, the Sooners play host to Texas A&M Saturday, hoping to avoid a repeat result from last year's meeting with the Aggies. The Aggies have three losses this season by a total of 12 points (all at home), and the Sooners lost their last home game by three points to Texas Tech.

Oklahoma leads the all-time series 18-11, but lost last year as a ranked team to an unranked Aggie team, as A&M posted a 33-19 win at home. That game broke a seven-game Sooner win streak in the series. A&M has not won in Norman since a 51-7 win in 1997seven visits ago.

Texas A&M Aggies

After winning three straight games, the Aggies fell out of the BCS Top 25 after losing a late lead and dropping a 38-31 overtime decision at home to Missouri. All three losses this year have been by four points or fewer or in OT. Texas A&M has scored 30 or more pints in every game. This is only the Aggies' third road game this season, winning the previous two.

The Aggies are one of the best offensive units in the country, averaging 39 points and 520 yards per contest (295 passing, 225 rushing). Ryan Tannehill completes 65 percent of his passes for 2,322 yards and 18 touchdowns with seven interceptions. His offensive line has allowed just seven sacks. His top threats are Ryan Swope and Jeff Fuller with 96 total receptions for 1,193 yards and 10 TDs.

The running game is headed by a prolific pair in Christine Michael and Cyrus Gray, who have combined for 1,515 yards and 15 TDs (5.4 yards per carry).

Defensively, the Aggies are a bit suspect, allowing 27 points and 424 yards per game (318 passing, 106 rushing). The unit does have 30 sacks on the seasons (nearly four per game) but has forced just six turnovers. Jonathan Stewart (57 tackles), Sean Porter (51) and Trent Hunter (50) lead the group with 158 total stops, while Porter leads the team with 8.5 sacks. Hunter has two interceptions and Gavin Stansbury has two forced fumbles.

Randy Bullock has made his last 11 field-goal attempts and has made 15-of-17 such kicks this year.

Oklahoma Sooners

The Sooners recovered from their lone loss with a 58-17 road win over previously unbeaten Kansas State. The team did lose its game at home, however, dropping a 41-38 decision to Texas Tech. In each of the last six games, Oklahoma has scored at least 38 points, and has allowed 17 or fewer points six times in eight games.

The Sooners rank fifth in the nation in scoring (46 points per game) and averaging 564 yards per game (397 passing 167 rushing). Landry Jones is a top passer in the country, completing 67 percent of his passes for 3,094 yards and 26 TDs with nine interceptions. His offensive line has allowed just three sacks.

Seven players have at least 11 catches this season, but Ryan Broyles is one of the nation's leaders, catching 81 passes (10 per game) for 1,070 yards and 10 TDs, while Kenny Stills adds 39 grabs for 566 yards and seven scores. Dom Whaley anchors the running game with 627 yards and nine TDs, averaging 5.5 yards per carry.

The defense ranks 20th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 19 points and 339 yards per game (214 passing, 125 rushing). The unit has recorded 34 sacks and forced 16 turnovers. The team has four defensive TDs (three fumble returns, one interception) and is led by the 157 total tackles combined by Travis Lewis, Aaron Colvin and Ronnell Lewis. Fran Alexander leads with 7.5 sacks, while Ronnell Lewis and Corey Nelson each have 5.5 sacks. Tony Jefferson has four INTs, while Alexander and Javon Harris each have two forced fumbles.
