subject: The Saying That More Accidents Occur In The Home Than Anywhere Else Isn't Just An Old Wives' Tale [print this page]

The saying that more accidents occur in the home than anywhere else isn't just an old wives' tale it is borne out by facts.

The fact that most people spend such a large amount of time in their home means that they will be most likely to suffer an accident in this environment. Accidents can occur anywhere and they are far more likely to happen if someone is not paying attention or is blas about their actions. Remaining alert and aware of potential dangers will help people to reduce their risk of injuries but accidents can still happen and they can happen anywhere.

A great deal of attention is focused on raising awareness of how to avoid road traffic accidents, for the simple reason that they have a high potential to be fatal or causing serious injury. There is also the cost implication of being involved in such an accident, which again, can seriously impact on a persons life. For anyone who has been involved in a road traffic accident that was not their fault, it makes sense that they should be able to claim some form of redress against the person whose fault it was. However, the vast majority of people involved in a road traffic accident find the prospect of having to deal with 'legal people' daunting, and so they do not pursue a claim.

There are also many accidents which can happen in the workplace with the most common form of workplace accident involving people slipping or tripping. This means that people should be on the lookout for wet floors, loose items on those floors or parts of the floor which do not appear to be safe. Using common sense in the workplace is one of the best ways for people to avoid accidents, but no matter what, there will always be some people who do not pay proper attention to their surroundings.

Staying alert to potential dangers can give people a chance to avoid problems so it makes sense to remain as focused as possible. This is the same for drivers and pedestrians and it is also applies to people around their home. It is easy to take things for granted but this creates the risk of people missing something which causes them to trip or become involved in an accident. Staying alert and focused will not guarantee that accidents are eliminated, but it will make the risk of falling victim to one much smaller.
