The World Wide Web is getting very popular among individual users as well as commercial organizations. Internet is the place where people can find anything they ever could imagine for. There are many strategies and methods that are followed while developing a website of highest quality. Considerable amount of time should be spent on gathering the requirements of the clients, proper analysis and understanding of the client needs.

Gathering the information and understanding the online needs of the clients is the first phase in web development. In this stage adequate research should be carried out about the expectations of the targeted audiences. After having documented all the information, detailed analysis is carried out about the website to be developed. This is the phase where client sets the well defined goals and objectives for their websites.

Once the first phase is completed and scope of the web site is defined, the second stage is design stage. In design stage, the website designers take the inputs from the first stage and provide appropriate design. During the design stage, web site designers pick the appropriate web development technology, tools, software utilities etc. They also formulate and prescribe the guidelines about content, design, layout of the website for web developers to follow. Often during the design stage, two or more prototypes of the actual website are built to give the client glimpse of their website would look like. Based on the agreed scope of the website, website designers also document the functionality and features expected from the website.

After the client approves a specific prototype, it is the job of web developers to start coding the website. They follow the design specifications provided by website designers. Actual development process of the website is very important phase of the web development cycle. Web developers write code to for all the features of the website and implement approved layout for the website. They also perform initial basic testing of the functionality.

The fourth phase of web site development is testing. The website designers would provide test cases and test plans. Based on these test plans, through testing of the website features is carried out. If any bugs or issues are found, they are immediately resolved by the web developers. During testing phase, the website is also tested for compatibility with various operating systems and web browsers. On successful completion of the testing phase, the website is finally published to web hosting server.
