subject: No Fragrance Skin Care Trends [print this page]

http://www.herbalix.com/store/exclusives/no-added-fragrance/cat_9.html">Fragrance-free skin care products are growing by leaps and bounds, thanks to the increasein allergies. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) says that fragrances are themain cause for cosmetic contact dermatitis --a condition affecting more than two million people's healthtoday. Are youone of the growing numbers of people with a sensitivity tofragrances?

Plus thanks to world travel, globalization and the Internet, there are more and more fragranced products being sold worldwide, so it stands to reason why there are more and more people with fragrance sensitivities. The symptoms typically include sneezing, runny nose, headaches, lack of focus, dizziness and watery eyes. Some people experience respiratory problems such as wheezing, while others get hives or even skin rashes.

There are a number of medical experts who have theorized about this subject, and believe that allergies from fragrances may be on the rise due to the fact that the fragrances themselves are such a big commodity these days. According to the AAD, there combinations of about 5,000 different fragrances used daily in everything from from perfumes, to toiletries, to hair sprays, to shampoos for humans, pets and carpets.

One recent new research study is among the first to look specifically at contact skin allergies, suggesting that people who suffer from other types of allergies may have a lower risk for certain cancers, These findings, however, do not prove that contact allergies have a direct impact on cancer risk. They do at least suggest an association. (Source: Denmark's National Allergy Research Center.) Using Danish health registries this research team followed around 17,000 adults in that country who were tested for contact skin allergies between 1984 and 2008.

The results showed that one in three adults, or 35 percent, had positive reactions to at least one allergen. Women were even more likely than men to get contact allergies, as 41 percent of women them tested positive, compared to only 26 percent of men. These are reasons why fragrance-free products are on the rise. When a consumer sees more organic products in the marketplace; they are now also looking for fragrance-free products. No added fragrance products are created for people who prefer clean no added fragrance products. These products do have a mild, natural aroma from a blend of pure, unrefined base oils.

People do have some control over what they allow into their homes and other personal spaces -- in fact, we can throw out magazines with the inserts, and we can switch shampoo or skin care products to those that are organic and fragrance-free skin care products. However, the reality is that this can become an issue when our senses are assaulted in common areas, such as at work or in a classroom, and public places such as libraries..
