subject: Foul Weather? [print this page]

There are few manufacturers in the industry who know how to make waterproof riding gear better than the rain-soaked riders at Icon. Icon makes riding gear for the street and most of their staff rides to work on the often stormy roads of Portland, Oregon. So, it's easy to see why Icon has consistently created and marketed some of the best foul weather gear on the planet.

A new product to walk out of Icon's foul-weather development center is the Reign boot. The Reign boot's easy access and low profile design make it an excellent choice for the daily commute or long distance travel. Rugged waterproof YKK zippers make entry and exit a snap (actually a zip). The waterproof and breathable interior means your feet stay cool and dry even when it's neither cool nor dry outside. Protection comes by the way of durable leather and a ballistic nylon upper mated with injection molded shin and ankle plates. The lowers feature an axialmetric steel shank along with slip-resistant high friction outsoles. Even with all of these features, Icon still manages to make them so lightweight and comfortable you may just want to wear them year round.

Selling points: Durable leather and ballistic nylon upper; 100% waterproof seam sealed construction; waterproof and breathable inner lining; injection molded shin and ankle plates; rubber shift interface ribs; high friction Icon outsoles; axialmetric steel shank; footpeg interface arch; YKK waterproof zippers.

If you were to make the riding season in Portland into a pie chart it would look something like a pizza with one small slice missing. The small slice is the time with it's not raining. The rest of the year is pretty much wet. Like the rest of Icon's PDX line, the PDX waterproof gloves were made for the rain. The biggest challenge was to make them waterproof without compromising dexterity and feel. Embossed meoprene flex panels in critical areas provide plenty of flex and the pre-curved palm and fingers ensure great feel from your controls. The waterproof textile chasis with over-the-cuff gauntlets keep the moisture out. Protection comes by the way of abrasion-resistant palms and heavy duty construction. They're available in black, red, grey, and blue.

Selling points: Waterproof textile chassis; abrasion resistant palm; embossed neoprene flex panels in critical areas; pre-curved palm and finger design; hook and loop closure system; over the cuff gauntlet; elastic at the cuff.
