subject: Vending Machine Parts: Two Types Of Coin Mechanisms [print this page]

A vending machine coin mechanism is an electrical or mechanical part of vending equipment which is the one responsible in counting the coin inserted and dispenses coins as change to the customer when they have chosen the product in which they want to purchase.

Coin mechanism is a major part of most coin operated machines such as vending, ticket machines and arcades in which coins were dropped. The coin mechanism does one of two things; it either accepts or rejects the coin inserted by the customer. The mechanism will validate the coin according to its shapes and size, determining if it's valid or not. If the coin is valid, it will take the coin and store it to the cash box and the vending machine will dispense the product or goods chosen by the customer. The coin mechanism also counts the coins in the cash box and is responsible in giving out change if there's any.

There are two basic types of coin mechanisms, these are electronic and mechanical.

Mechanical Coin Mechanism

The mechanism is the one who does the testing of the coin, and if the coin passes that certain test, the coin would fall into the cashbox and then the credit will be added since the micro chip would be triggered. Usually, mechanical coin mechanism accepts only one type of coin which is very common in gumball vending machines and other types of machines such as game machines, ticket machines and the like. This type of coin mechanism is very affordable and simple, however its chances of jamming is quite high compared to electronic coin mechanism.

Electrical Coin Mechanisms

Electrical coin mechanism is more sophisticated than the mechanical. It can be programmed to identify and accept different kinds of coins according to its shape and size. They also jam less and have more security features and are more expensive than mechanical coin mechanisms.

This type of coin mechanism is popular these days most especially different kinds of vending machines such as snack machines, combo machines and so much more.
