subject: Some Easy Ways To Stay Fit And Still Enjoy Little Alcohol! [print this page]

Alcohol is generally considered to be a weight loss and health taboo. It is full of empty calories, after all. However, there's nothing really wrong with a little alcohol in moderation, even when you are trying to lose weight and stay fit. Here are some easy tips to help you do that.

Lose The Guilt:

First of all, lose the guilt. As long as you are drinking rarely and responsibly, there's no reason to feel bad. In fact, stress over the guilt is likely to make you gain weight more so than the alcohol itself is.

Budget Your Calories:

Most diet and weight loss plans are calorie-based. However, different foods and beverage have different calorie amounts. So, just be sure to document the calories that you are drinking and not go over your daily allotment. Also, make sure that those calories aren't taking away from eating healthy meals.

Understand What Moderation Means:

The word "moderation" means different things to different people. Some think that having a glass of wine every evening is fine. Some think that getting drunk is fine, if they only do it on the weekends. Others feel that drinking is best left for parties and special occasions.

The truth of the matter is that it is never a good idea to get "drunk". It's also not a good idea to drink every day. So, on whatever you consider to be a special occasion, feel free to break out a bottle of wine or a beer. However, try water or juice the rest of the time.

Be Careful Of The "Munchies":

We've all had the "munchies", especially when we drink alcohol. That's not unusual, but it can be awful for any diet plan. So, if you are going to drink moderately, make sure that your junk food intake is moderate, too. In fact, it's even better if you can avoid the junk food entirely.

Fatty foods are particularly bad for weight loss and especially when they are mixed with alcohol. So, they need to be avoided. It might be a good idea to decide on some healthy snacks before you start drinking alcohol and have them ready and waiting. That might make you less likely to reach for the unhealthy stuff.

So, don't let being on a diet prevent you from enjoying a party or special occasion. Alcohol consumption is just fine, if you know how to keep it under control. It is possible to lose weight and still indulge, from time to time.
