subject: 3g Wireless And 4g Internet Service [print this page]

WISP is an acronym for Wireless Internet Service Provider. The Wireless Internet Service Provider establishes 3G and 4G internet service in various locations. Sometimes, these locations are called Wi-Fi hotspots, or they can offer different types of local internet wireless access. With Wi-Fi hotspots emerging everywhere, in commercial or residential environments, two different levels of internet access, service and speed are offered, in addition to services like VPN (Virtual Private Networking) and VOIP (Voice over the Internet Protocol). The two different levels of wireless internet service are 3G and 4G.

3G and 4G wireless internet service is provided through Wi-Fi, which means wireless fidelity. Hotels, businesses, cafes, airports and other transit stations, including some conveyances like ferries and even air travel, include internet access through Wi-Fi networks. Using 3G and 4G internet service through a Wi-Fi network or "hotspot" gives you access to the internet through a laptop, net book, notebook, tablet or internet-capable Smartphone.

The basic compatibility standard for Wi-Fi is based on IEEE 802.11 specifications. Now, a new specification of IEEE 802.16 is referred to as WiMAX, and is currently in increasing development. The WiMAX specification is intended to offer a broader range of Wi-Fi access, and higher transfer speeds for data. WiMAX provides new standards to provide Wi-Fi access into broader areas, which are sometimes referred to as "last mile" areas. This is a different type of access to the internet than cable or DSL technology.

Terms like Wi-Fi and WiMAX do not refer to specific products or technology. They enable different manufacturers to meet standards and certifications that their devices will provide desired service, be interoperable with other devices and services, and will conform to the standard set forth for performance. This allows 3G and 4G internet service to be provided on a broad range of different devices, and through a broad range of different providers. Because the terms are much easier to remember than specifications like IEEE 802.16, the average person uses "Wi-Fi" or "WiMAX" to refer to wireless internet access and connectivity, such as is found in internet "hot spots" in cafes, airports, lounges and more.

With all the different wireless internet service providers, it is challenging to choose which would provide the best value for 3G and 4G internet service. You will want to review different rates, geographical availability, coverage areas, and any specials or promotional offers you could take advantage of. Instead of spending many hours to research and become an expert in each individual company and provider among hundreds, you can take advantage of expert, experienced research to review your options to purchase 3G wirelesses and 4G internet services. In the past, it sometimes took weeks to contact a service provider and ask for a response with quote for wireless internet service. You will want to seek quotes of prices, deals, and service contracts before making any choice of 3G wirelesses and 4G internet services. Quotes for 3G wirelesses and 4G internet services are available in many U.S. states, Canadian provinces, and hundreds of international countries and locations.
