subject: Use Your Wireless Internet Access To Support Lgbt Youth [print this page]

October is LGBT history month, and recently, many celebrities have been coming out of the closet to tell the world that theyre gay. These celebrities hope that by acknowledging their sexuality, they are helping younger people become more comfortable with their own. Zachary Quinto is the latest celebrity to come out, and he has stated that his reason for doing so was related to the death of Jamey Rodemeyer. Jamey Rodemeyer, a young gay man, committed suicide after being harassed and bullied at school for years due to his sexuality. There are thousands of other young LGBT people who are struggling to get through their youth while their peers target them with insults, but there are many ways to help them do so. Using your wireless internet connection, you can find out about all kinds of ways that you can help protect young LGBT people and ensure that they have great opportunities for success.

One of the simplest things you can do is make an It gets better video and use your wireless internet access to post it online. Started by sex and relationship columnist Dan Savage, the It Gets Better project consists of videos made by thousands of LGBT people and their allies. Each video is comprised of a short message that tells people about how much better life can get when you grow up and get away from bullies. Suicide rates among young LGBT people are incredibly high, which is a result of the loneliness and despair that so many of them feel. These videos aim to help young people realize that there are plenty of people out there that are supportive of them. You can easily participate in the project for free by simply uploading your own video with your wireless internet connection.

Another great way to help young LGBT people is to support various organizations such as the Trevor project and the Point Foundation. You can read more about these organizations online with your wireless internet access to figure out which group you might be able to assist with the most and which group will be of greater interest to you. The Trevor project is a toll free suicide hotline for LGBT youth to call whenever they are feeling vulnerable. The project aims to reduce suicides by providing volunteers to talk to teens 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If a LGBT teenager feels suicidal, they can call the hotline to speak with a trained volunteer that can help them feel accepted and provide them with the supportive resources that they need. Alternatively, the Point Foundation is an organization that provides educational scholarships for LGBT youth. Many LGBT youth are kicked out of their homes by their families after they come out, which means they dont have access to financial resources that they need in order to further their education. These scholarships can help them go back to school so they can have the bright future that they deserve. Use your wireless internet connection to learn more about these organizations and projects so you can get involved with supporting LGBT youth this October.
