subject: Different Parts Of Down-filled Garments [print this page]

If you live in a windy and freezing climate, a down-filled coat would be what you need most. Here I would like to talk about different parts of the down-filled garments.

Insulation: It is usually goose down feather. It has an incredible warmth-to-weight ratio and is also highly compressible, so it is easier to pack.

Length: A lot of people choose the coats that are long enough to cover their thigh, so when wind blows, it gives a lot of protection against the wind and keep them warm. Some coats fall below the knees; some even fall almost to the ankles.

Size: The large size will provide you with room for a sweater underneath, so when the weather gets extremely cold, and you feel the down is not enough, then you can wear a sweater underneath the down coat.

Hood: Some hoods can zip-off and be removed. So if you do not want it, you can just take it off. Some of the hoods can be "hidden" away. But when the wind is strong, or it is snowing, you may need to put the hood on. There usually is elastic around the hood which holds it in place loosely, without having to tie anything. It is super warm when you tighten the elastic around the hood, the hood completely and securely covers the head to keep out the wind.

Shell fabric: The exterior shell fabric features a unique and eye catching design and has also been treated with durable water repellent finish to shed snow and rain, for reliable warmth and dryness when you are out. Most down coats has wind-resistant nylon shell with the finish that repels snow and wet. In addition to water-proof and wind- resistant, the shell fabric also plays an important role in decorating the dull winter. You can choose whatever color you want.

Pockets: Almost all down-filled garments have pockets. Some are big and allows you to put your phone, flashlight into it. While some are small, they look pretty but not practical. Some coats have secret pocket inside, so that you can put some important things, such as money in this safer place.

Lining: Fleece lining is for exceptionally soft warmth. The coat felt so soft and warm against people's skin. The soft and thick fleece lining brings you extra warmth.

Zipper: Some down-filled garments can unzip from the bottom. This allows people to take bigger strides, and also have more options in staying warmer or cooler. Interior zip pocket stores cards, keys, and other small essentials, so you will not afraid the things will fall off after you zip the pocket. Some special zippers can make the coat look more eye-catching.

Sleeves: When you are trying to find a coat for cold weather, you should pay extra attention to the sleeves. Some coats have too short of sleeves, which will make your arms and hands expose in the windy weather. While some coat's sleeves are nice and long enough. For some coats, the cuff of the sleeves can be tightened, so that the wind will not blow in from the cuff.
