subject: Workouts For Busy Moms [print this page] This article gives busy moms 3 tips on how they can fit in a workout in their day.
Use your lunch break wisely. If you are a working mom then you might find it difficult to even fit in your normal daily routine let alone exercise as well. Chances are your day starts with making lunches for the family then breakfast followed by washing up and then putting on a load of washing before getting the kids in the car and dropping them off at child care before going to work yourself.
Then at the end of the working day the routine is the same, picking up the kids, cooking dinner, cleaning up and sorting the washing, then organising homework, baths and bedtimes before you have any valuable time with your partner. It is no wonder you have no time for exercise. But consider what you do in your lunch break. You could eat your lunch at your desk, and then you have a whole hour where you can fit in a workout. If you don't have a gym nearby then you can go for a brisk walk, however a lot of offices these days have gyms on site or nearby so that you can get fit in your breaks.
Get up an hour earlier to workout. It might seem like a difficult thing to achieve if you have a house full of children and chores to be done, and if you are up early it might be tempting to make a start on that instead. However, think about the good you will be doing to yourself if you can workout at the start of the day. You can make sure that you are staying fit and that will mean you will have a longer life and more time to spend with your family. You will also finish your workout feeling happier because of the serotonin it produces and that will make you a happier mum too.
The end of the day might not seem like the best time to work out. You are tired and feeling full from dinner. However for some mums this is the only time of the day that they have any time for themselves. If you don't want to exercise after eating a large evening meal you could always fit in your workout when the kids are eating their dinner then you can have yours later with your partner or after the children have gone to bed. If you are too tired at this time of day for an energetic workout you can still do some gentle pilates or yoga. The children can always join in too if you want to do an activity with them, or don't have time to fit it in when they aren't around.
If you can see the value of exercise then you will always be able to find time in the day to fit in a workout. Even the busiest mom can be fit and healthy if they really try.
