subject: What Is Your Story? [print this page]

Have you ever heard the story about the father and two sons? The father was a mess; drugs and alcohol ruled his life, and he was not a good man. He was mean, abusive, and he took it out on his wife and kids. He had two sons who were interviewed years later after they became fathers. Their stories were very different. One of the sons had fallen into crime and drugs, and was not a good father for his sons. In fact, he wasnt even around. When asked why, the man said, What choice did I have? My father was the same way; he was my example.

The other son was successful. He had a thriving business, a healthy, loving family and was a role model in the community. When asked why he turned out so successful when his brother hadnt, he answered, What choice did I have? I saw the example my father set and vowed that I would not do that to my own family. He was my example of what not to do.

Both sons had the same story, yet one used it as an excuse, the other as a stepping stone.

Whats your story? Why did you join the company you are joining or looking to join? What did you do in the past? What made you decide to finally do something about it? When I share my business with others, I love telling my story.

I was working for a motivational speaker, not making very much money, always looking for something to do on the side. I knew I had amazing potential to be successful, but I hadnt found the right business or opportunity for me. When I saw my current business, it just made sense. I was tired of seeing other people at the seminars I was attending stand up and tell the audience that they made $250,000 last year. I knew I was

capable of so much more and was tired of living the way I was living. I made a choice to start working on myself, and when I was ready, my home based business found me.

Stories put pictures in your mind. Stories evoke emotion. Whether you are a church goer or not, pastors are master storytellers. They affect the congregation with stories of hope and inspiration. They have conviction, passion, and enthusiasm.

People hear my story and they can hear the conviction in my voice. They KNOW that this is not something that I am dabbling in. They know I am a lifer. The question is, are you 100% convinced that you are ready to move forward? People wont want to join you if you arent. Develop a compelling story. Be yourself. Be honest. Be genuine. It works.
