Feeling depressed and lonely? Feel like you are just not getting the most out of life, know that there could be more, but just aren't sure what? Don't worry that is exactly how the average person is. Would you prefer to have more? Here are ten tips on how to live life better:

Connect with people. As the popular saying goes, "no man is an island". Man is essentially a social being, and there is a reason why we were created so. Friendship gives people an incredible feeling of self-worth. It's great to be valued by your fellows. It's nice to talk to someone when you're lonely. Never underestimate the effect of relationships - they keep you sane and balanced.

Try to maintain a positive attitude. If you wake up each day thinking that the day will be another frustrating one, then it will be. Remember that in order for man to appreciate happiness, he must first know pain. Be confident that you can overcome problems, and you will notice that you really will.

Don't just sit around; engage in physical activity. You will find that exercise and the ability to sit and move around have profound effects on attitude. The less you exercise your muscles, the more the inactivity of your brain. Besides, if you just sit around all day long, you enlist so much time for negative thoughts to enter your mind."The idle mind is the playground of the devil," as one philosopher said.

Help others. You get an incredible amount of satisfaction, an adrenaline rush, when you help others out. You suddenly realize a purpose in life. Stop thinking about your own self. Take time to think about others, too.

Sleep! A tired body leads to a tired mind. A tired mind is not capable of thinking happy thoughts. Studies have proven that the lack of sleep is one of the major contributing factors to depression. Who knows what wonderful things you can come across in your dreams?

Determine your source of joy and satisfaction. Maybe it's by watching a movie, or reading a book. It doesn't need to be expensive or unattainable. Everybody has something he/she loves to do. Think about it, and do everything possible to do engage in it as often as possible.

Eat well. There is a reason why serial dieters always feel lethargic and inactive - they don't eat well. Food is the main source of nutrients, and nutrients do serve a purpose in a person's body. Sugars give a natural high, while carbohydrates are the source of energy. Eat up - but not too much, because overeating is the source of another thing to be depressed about.

Take time to meditate. Although it is encouraged that we associate as much as we can with others, it is also important that we have alone time. For others, it may be meditation, while for some, "me time" is time alone with God in prayer. Whatever it is, stop once in a while to ponder on all of life'1s blessings. Think that no matter how bad you think your situation is, there are numerous other people who are in worse positions than you.

Learn to deal with life's challenges. Nobody has a perfect, problem-free life. Everybody has his/her own share of obstacles. The trick lies in rising above adversities. As what was first mentioned, one must experience hardship before they can fully appreciate joy.

If you really feel that you need it, seek professional help. There may be biological or physical reasons for your depression. Seek medical advice. For all you know, your depression is not rooted in your mind - but in some enzyme that your body failed to produce. Only a doctor will be able to tell.
