subject: 4 Things That Could Go Wrong As An Affiliate Marketer [print this page]

I am a big fan of affiliate marketingI am a big fan of affiliate marketing. It is one of my primary sources of income every month. However, there are things I have found that can go wrong as an affiliate marketer you might want to be aware of if you're thinking of using affiliate marketing to make money online.

1. It is easy to find affiliate programs. If you believe everything you read finding affiliate programs to make money with it is the easiest thing in the world.

It actually is easy to find affiliate programs if you look in the right place. What's harder is actually making money with them.

As the Internet becomes more cluttered with affiliate products and programs the competition will increase. Just because you find an affiliate program to join does not guarantee your success.

A better approach is to get into targeted niche affiliate marketing. You can learn more about that at The Affiliate Power Group or AssociatePrograms.com

2. Hard work is all it takes. Granted it is going to take hard work, but that is not going to guarantee your success either.

Unless you are doing things correctly all you're going to do is work hard and not see any results. This is part of the reason why people fail in affiliate marketing.

Everyone wants to work at home and affiliate marketing looks like a great way to do it. You need to become educated on affiliate strategies if you want to really make money.

3. You do not need a website of your own. There are people who make money with affiliate programs using the marketing materials provided by the merchant.

The real downside to this is everyone that joins the affiliate program is using the same marketing materials. This includes using the same website, although it will be coded with your own affiliate i.d. number.

Getting a website of your own offers several advantages. One of the primary ones is you can review affiliate products and pre-sell them before sending your visitors through to the affiliate sales page.

You can also develop a landing pages to build email list. Using your own website and building your own list is a proven long-term strategy for affiliate marketing success.

4. Beware of scams. Occasionally I get an email from an affiliate marketer who says they've been scammed in the past.

I personally have not had this happen to me. Try and deal only with reputable affiliate networks such as ClickBank, Commissions Junction, and Google Adsense, and you shouldn't have any problems.

These are 4 things I have found that could go wrong as an affiliate marketer that you need to be aware of!
