2011 is an Amazing Year for Gamers

2011 has been an amazing year for gamersespecially core gamers, who have been able to experience a myriad of games thanks to the blooming video game industry. It doesn't matter if you consider yourself to be a console gamer or a PC gamertop rated games are abundant on every platform. From handhelds like the Nintendo DS and the PSP; to consoles like the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, there are games for every kind of gamer. No one is left out.

Just as well, it's been a very good year for fans of every genre. From lovers of first person shooters to strategy diehards, the video game industry has been diligent in putting out a wide selection of games, and casting a wide net over the ocean of gamers who now make up the medium's vast audience.

Gamers have had access to a variety of expensive, big budget, and top rated games like Gears of War 3, Portal 2 and Resistance 3, all of which have graced console and PC platforms alike. These games received a great response from both the gamers and critics in equal measurea delight, I'm sure, to the developers who poured their heart and soul into developing those titles. It's even more awesome to note that the year has yet to end, with the likes of Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3 and Batman: Arkham City to see release before the end of the year.

And those are just the big titles. The so-called indie games like Bastion and Binding of Isaac have been no less wonderful, despite being "low budget" in comparison to their heavily marketed counterparts. We look to developers like Supergiant Games, Team Meat, and Mojang (which developed the awesome Minecraft) to see if they can offer what the rest of the industry cannot. Thanks to the lack of constrictive marketing departments and suited men to keep their creativity at bay, these studios are more or less free to do as they please, taking creative games to heights never before reached.

We look ahead to 2012 and beyond, and wonder if the future hold as much promise as this year did, with further top rated games not too far along on the horizon.

There has never been a better time in history to be a gamer.
