subject: Hvac Options For New Homes [print this page]

When you are building a new house or thinking about building a new home for your family, the sky is literally the limit when it comes to all of the systems you can have installed in your house. Houses don't just have to have a furnace for the HVAC system in the house. Today's homes have everything from central vacuuming units to whole house humidifiers to keep the house at a certain temperature and humidity level. And, the HVAC technician needs to know how to install and repair every single one of them.

Ductless Air Conditioning

There are now ductless air conditioning units available for rooms and sections of a house. The units can either be mounted on the wall or they can stand alone where they can be moved from room to room. If you have a small house or one level, you might be able to get away with only having one unit. The stand alone units are less expensive than putting in a duct system in your home. The benefits that you would have include less dust, dirt, and mold in your home. That would be very helpful if someone in the house has allergies! The air will be much cleaner because there will be less particles circulating because of a lack of ducts.

Geothermal Systems

Geothermal systems include the furnace and AC unit that are buried underground outside of the house. The pipes are insulated by the ground because they are buried below the frost line. The pipes and the air are cooled as they pass through the pipes, and then are sent back into the house.

Ventilation

A house needs to be properly vented so all of the hot air goes out when it is not welcome in a house. Vents needs to be installed in kitchens, near the furnace units to get the exhaust out. Ventilation is also needed in order to get the air flow to and from a furnace or an air conditioner.

Radon Eradication

Not all types of HVAC systems cool or heat the air. Radon eradication makes sure that the air is safe for you, and everyone else, to breathe. Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can seep into basements. Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer, so getting it out of your house is important. The HVAC technician can install a radon eradication system with pipes through the basement floor that go up and filter the bad particles out of your house.

Air Purifiers

For people who have a lot of allergies, the spring and fall months can be killers when the windows are open. You can close the windows, you can choose to install air purifiers in the house, or you can use a system to maintain the entire house. Air purifiers use a filter system to trap bad particles from the air so it is cleaner to breathe.

Humidifiers

Humidifiers are used to put some moisture back into the air when it is too dry. Humidifiers are used in the winter time, especially when gas forced furnace units heat the home and the air becomes very dry to breathe.
