subject: 6 Things You Will Be Taught At The Online Nursing School [print this page]

The demand for Registered Nurses (RNs) has shot up over the past few years. With healthcare becoming a very important part of people's lives, the need for nurses to take care of the sick and those not wanting to fall sick has risen. Thanks to the internet, nursing courses are now available online. But some still feel that the content of the online nursing courses is different from the on-campus programs. Here is a look at what is offered at the online nursing school, in a nutshell.

*Fundamentals of Nursing

Like in a regular course, the students are taught of the fundamentals of nursing. There are many nursing theories which are preached to the students. The theories of Florence Nightingale, the English lady who made the nursing profession what it is today, are also taught.

*Basic Anatomy

Basics of biology and human anatomy are taught to the students in the initial stages. This helps them understand on how to deal during simple situations and emergencies like cuts, burns, injuries and fractures.

*Basic Medical Law

Doctors and nurses are required to have a sound knowledge of the basics of medical law, They are also taught about other laws involving patients and their families like patients rights and patient confidentiality, as they are required to deal with the affected on a daily basis.

*Specialization

During the last leg of the online course, student nurses are required to pick a subject or speciality of their choice, thereby, becoming a specialist nurse. This practice is more common in the Master's course.

*Practical Training

Clinicals and practical training are an integral part of the course. Every now and then, they are required to go to hospitals and clinics to participate in practical activities. This is the main reason why many a online nursing schools require the student to be stationed around the campus.

*Dealing with Compassion

One of the major roles which a nurse plays, and is perhaps, they are the best known for, is the compassion they are able to show. They deal with patients in pain and anxious relatives. Hence, they are taught to be compassionate, considerate and at the same time, responsible.

Online nursing schools offer almost the same course as compared to a regular course. Except that the course is compact, there is no major difference between the two. The time saved by enrolling into an online course gives one more time for practical training in life.
