There are many specialities that the field of nursing has to offer. There are many universities, colleges and institutes which offer specialization in many different lines. Mentioned below are some of the most common specializations.

1.Adult nurses

Adult nurses work with a wide age group, working with young adults to the old and deal with a variety of health conditions. They have a lot of duties ranging from care taking to counseling. They have long working working hours and are mostly in wards and clinics.

2.Children's nurses

Children require special attention for the problems they suffer from. Children's nurses specialize in taking care of kids suffering from injuries, birth defects, health complications and immunization. They generally serve at nursing homes, child care centers and community health clinics.

3.Neonatal nurses

Newborns, both healthy and premature, have special requirements. Neonatal nurses take special care of these babies in special controlled conditions.

4.Practice nurses

Practice nurses generally assist a team of doctors in performing general surgeries. While small surgeries may require few nurses, big surgeries are performed with the help of a team of nurses.

5.District nurses

Some people after they have undergone a major surgery or illness require nursing support. District nurses visit such people at their houses to provide them the 24 hours support they need.

6.Learning disability nurses

These nurses support those suffering from learning disabilities and other mental and physical conditions. They are specially trained to be compatible with people with such disorders. They generally support the staff in special schools and learning centers.

7.Prison nurses

To provide healthcare to the prisoners, prison doctors are assisted by prison nurses. They may attend to physical health problems like accidents, injuries and mental health problems.

8.Mental health nurses

These nurses work with psychiatrists and psychologists to treat people with mental conditions and illnesses. With mental health problems rising, there is a great demand for such nurses. Mental health institutions, residential centers and prisons, they all require the services of mental health nurses.

9.School nurses

School nurses attend to the needs of the students like treating physical injuries. They are also available for counseling. They undertake health awareness programs and sex education.

10.Health visitors

They are registered nurses who work with organizations and travel around schools, institutions and localities to spread health awareness.

11.Healthcare assistants

These people are not qualified to work as nurses, hence, they work as assistants in the healthcare sector.
