subject: Be Part Of A Community [print this page] Community spirit should be a big thing these days. Once upon a time people didn't venture out from their own village and although I think this is a bit excessive there are many people who don't know a single person on their own street which is really sad. Other than a small amount of time when I first moved out from my parents I've always lived in villages and I've got to say I wouldn't have it any other way. Being in a village feels like a lot of community spirit. We all help each other out and support each other and you just do not get that in a town or city. If you walk down a lane and pass someone you automatically say hello even if you do not have a clue who the person is. This doesn't happen in a town and you're seen as being completely weird if you randomly say hello to a stranger in a town. It's a shame that it's such a contract.
In our village we help each other out and we take pride in the appearance of our village. We all work hard to keep communal areas tidy and that places such as the church and graveyards are presentable. We also help the older people of the community with things they may struggle with.
Along with these types of things we also share things and costs as much as possible so that we can make everything more affordable for each other. We all let each other know when we need to order logs, oil or need waste tank emptying so that we can split things such as call out costs or delivery costs. I needed waste tank emptying the other day so I let everyone in the village know and a few others needed cesspit emptying so we all booked our cesspit emptying together so that it was at a discounted price. I love the community feeling and I'd strongly recommend trying a little bit harder with your neighbors when you can. You"d be shocked at how well you can get on with people who live close.
