If you notice that there are some shingles missing in your roof, you can call a roof contractor that will cost you a couple of hundred dollar or you can matters in your own hands. Is very important if shingles are crack, cup up, missing or loose they get replace as soon as possible because if not they will cause a bigger problem and dame your roof to an extend that will cost you a lot more.

Replacing shingles are a simple task, although you have to take some precautions because you will be working in the roof. This task is one that will be better if you work with some else and before you consider doing it, we recommend you to research safety precaution.

In the following are 5 easy steps to replace an asphalt shingle.

Step 1- Pull out the damage shingles, staring with the uppermost shingle in the damage area, Be careful not to damage surrounding shingles that are still in good condition.

Step 2- After removing the shingle, remove old nails in and above the repair area using a flat pry bar. If felt paper is damage, patch it with roofing cement.

Step 3- Install the replacement shingles, beginning with the lowest shingle in the repair area. Nail the tab slots using 7/8 or 1'' nail.

Step 4- After installing all the necessary shingles, in the top shingle you will need to apply roofing cement to the underside of the top shingle, right above the seal line. This is to make sure the shingle stays secure.

step 5- Slip the last shingle into place, under the overlapping shingle. Lift the shingles immediately above the repair area and nail the top replacement shingle. Make sure you nail it because the roofing cement will not hold it in place by itself.

Remember that is very important that if you decide to do this, you work with some else during a sunny and dry day. If you are not sure about roofing work or you are uncomfortable working in heights, consider using a roofing professional and they will help you with your project. There are a lot of roofing contractors that can offer you a free estimate for your project, but make sure you verify the contractor with the BBB, ask for recomendation, and shop around before deciding. The most important thing is that your safety is first at all times.
