subject: Dog Collars For Doggie Safety And Style [print this page]

When a dog comes into your life, whether a puppy or rescued adult, the first order of business is to get the pooch an appropriate collar. That collar is an important item for more than just giving you something to grab when your excited, slippery puppy is determined to make a run for an open door or to attach a leash to for walks. It can certainly serve those purposes as well but a primary reason for a collar is to identify your dog should he or she get lost. In addition to the license and rabies tags, you should make a small investment into a tag that has the dog's name and your contact information.

Your dog should wear the collar and tags 24/7/365 except while being bathed or groomed. A dog without a collar is a heartbreak for you and your dog waiting to happen. Getting a proper collar sounds easy enough but may be more challenging than one would suspect. This is the fun part, however. A quick visit to most any pet website will show you hundreds of collars from which to choose. You will see plain collars in nylon, leather, and cloth in a wide variety of colors.

You will see fancy designs, studded, and bling dog collars. If you want you can even go for a camouflage dog collar to go with a stylish camo hoodie and doggie goggles for a particularly sporty look. With so many fun designs from which to choose and most of them at very affordable prices, it's difficult to make a decision on choosing just one so why not get several? You can choose one for each season or select holiday themes.

You can choose styles that fit your dog's breed or personality or go hipster ironic by putting bling dog collars on your big, tough Dobies and spiked or studded dog collars on your tiny teacup toy poodles. There are no rules so have a ball! For smaller dogs and rowdy puppies, it's also wise to invest in a harness to make it safer to walk on a leash.

A chest harness takes the pressure off of a dog's sensitive neck to prevent injury should the dog pull against the leash or lunge during walks. Of course, doggie fashion doesn't stop due to these practicalities. Like collars, soft, comfortable harnesses are available in fun designs and colors and matching leashes are simply a must for the well dressed dog. Your dog deserves the best and so do you. Have some fun with doggie fashion while you keep your best buddy safe!
